Khardomah Lodge is now the official traditional location of the Peninsula Writers Winter Retreat, held each year in February or March.
Next PW Winter Retreat: February 25-28, 2010
The 2009 Winter Retreat at Khardomah Lodge in Grand Haven had its usual bout with bad weather. The skies opened on Saturday and the snow flew, but the majority of the twenty-five retreat writers were snug and busy at their computers. And the few who had to drive in all made it safely.
The food was again wonderful (thanks to Shirley Neitzel, Marcie Woods, and Rich Travis), the company fine, and the work productive. The Friday night and Saturday night read-arounds showed once again what a talented bunch of writers make up Peninsula Writers.
And there was a contest---write the new Khardomah poem for the winter retreat brochure. And the winner is---Stephanie Feldstein's "Karen's Khardomah Poem." Runners up were Gloria Klinger ("Khardomah') and Lee Bradley (excerpt from "Back Yard at Khardomah Lodge").
The Winter Retreat is tentatively scheduled next year for the last weekend of February. If you have never attended a winter retreat, please keep this in mind for next year. It always is a productive and enjoyable time.
